Glossary
A glossary of compliance, ISO and occupational-safety terms — a concise definition for each, in English and Arabic.
- Advisor verdictحكم المستشار
- A color-coded automated opinion the Advisor whispers on a piece of evidence after reading it: green (proves the claim), amber (needs a human eye), red (doesn't prove it). It never changes a clause's color — the final decision belongs to humans.
- Auditالتدقيق
- A systematic examination that compares reality against the standard's requirements and gathers evidence of conformity or gaps. It can be internal (run by the facility itself) or external (run by an independent body).
- Certification Bodyجهة منح الشهادة
- An accredited independent body that audits facilities and grants ISO certificates once conformity is proven. Its independence is what makes the certificate trustworthy.
- Complianceالامتثال
- The facility actually operating the way it commits to under the standard or the law — every day, not just on audit day.
- Continual Improvementالتحسين المستمر
- Making performance improvement a permanent, repeating habit rather than a seasonal event, so each cycle raises the facility a notch higher.
- Corrective Action (CAPA)الإجراء التصحيحي
- An action that treats the root cause of a nonconformity to prevent recurrence, not just a one-time fix of the visible symptom.
- Evidenceالدليل
- A document, record, or photo that proves a requirement was actually applied. Good evidence is clear, current, and linked to the clause it serves.
- External Auditالتدقيق الخارجي
- An audit run by an independent body (a certification body) to decide whether to grant or renew the certificate based on the facility's conformity to the standard.
- Hazardالخطر
- A potential source of harm: anything that could cause injury or illness, like an exposed wire or a chemical substance, whether or not harm has actually occurred.
- ISOISO
- The International Organization for Standardization: a body that issues globally agreed standards for how businesses are managed. Getting an "ISO certificate" means an independent body has confirmed your facility conforms to one of these standards.
- ISO 45001ISO 45001
- The international standard for occupational health and safety management systems, giving facilities a unified framework to prevent work-related injuries and illness by identifying and controlling hazards.
- Internal Auditالتدقيق الداخلي
- An audit the facility runs on itself to find and fix gaps before the external audit, provided the auditor is independent of what they audit.
- Management Reviewمراجعة الإدارة
- A periodic meeting where top management examines the management system's performance and makes resourcing and improvement decisions — a loop the standard requires.
- Nonconformityعدم المطابقة
- Failing to meet one of the standard's requirements: a gap between what ISO asks for and what actually happens. It can be major (threatens the system) or minor (a limited lapse).
- Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S)السلامة والصحة المهنية
- The discipline of managing risks that threaten workers' health and safety in the workplace, and controlling them with an organized system instead of reacting after an incident.
- Operationعملية
- The Advisor's on-demand consumption unit (sweeping a file, reviewing a clause, running a gap analysis). Deducted from your monthly quota. The nightly sweep and morning digest are included in your subscription, uncounted.
- PDCA Cycleدورة PDCA
- Four repeating steps — Plan, Do, Check, Act — on which ISO standards build their continual improvement approach.
- Preventive Actionالإجراء الوقائي
- An action that addresses a potential cause of a problem before it happens, while a corrective action addresses a problem that has already occurred.
- Readinessجاهزية الشهادة
- A measure of how close the facility is to fully satisfying the standard's clauses, rising each time a clause gets sufficient evidence and becomes conformant.
- Riskالمخاطرة
- The likelihood that harm will occur from a given hazard, and how severe it would be. It differs from the hazard itself: the hazard is the source of harm, while risk measures its likelihood and severity.
- Risk Assessmentتقييم المخاطر
- The process of identifying hazards, then estimating the risk of each (its likelihood and severity) to rank priorities and focus controls on the highest-risk items.
- Scopeنطاق الشهادة
- The boundaries of what the certificate covers across the facility's sites and activities. Precisely defining the scope prevents confusion over what's covered by the standard and what isn't.
- Sweepالكنس
- The Advisor reading a board's or clause's evidence file-by-file and leaving a color-coded verdict on each. It runs automatically every night, and can be triggered early with the "Sweep board now" button.
